Uzstandard, an agency for standardization, metrology and certification of Uzbekistan, and the Uzbek Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will introduce the Halal certification of food products (those prepared according to Islamic law, free from pork products, alcohol and certain other ingredients) in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek media reported.

This will provide unhindered access and increase in export of Uzbek goods to the Malaysian market, according to the report.

An Uzbek delegation held talks in the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), and signed a protocol of intent with JAKIM on the joint introduction of Halal certification in Uzbekistan and the official recognition of the Uzbek agency by the Malaysian organization as the official authority for issuing Halal certification.

In order to study the Malaysian experience in this field, as well as get acquainted with the procedure of issuing the Halal certificate, conducting tests, and the activity of laboratories, the representatives of the Uzstandard agency visited Global Haltech company.

Global Haltech provides services for implementation of the Halal certification system abroad. The company also conducts training and refresher courses. The company has its own laboratory, Halvec Laboratories, accredited by the JAKIM.

Following the negotiations with Global Haltech, an agreement was signed on cooperation in introducing Halal certification in Uzbekistan together with the Malaysian company and personnel training in this direction.
