Japanese bank signs loan agreement with Turkmenistan

The State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan has signed a loan agreement with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) for financing of the project in the field of electric energy.

This refers to the construction of a gas turbine power plant with a capacity of 432 megawatts in the Charjou district of Lebap region, the Turkmen bank said in a statement Sept. 11.

The State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan and JBIC signed an agreement on cooperation in 2013.

In addition, a number of agreements and contracts between the state concerns "Turkmengaz", "Turkmenhimiya" and "Turkmennebit" (Turkmenneft) with Japanese Sojitz, Chiyoda, Nippon, ITOCHU, JGC, Kawasaki, TOYO, Mitsui, Tsukishima, Mitsubishi, Sumitomo companies were signed in 2013. It was reported then that the total cost of the planned joint projects exceeded $10 billion.
