By 2020, Uzbekistan intends to process all of the cotton harvested in the country, Uzbek media reported citing the country's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev Sept. 13.
In 2019 the cluster principle of cotton production in Uzbekistan will cover 51 percent of all cotton fields and up to 78 percent of the harvested cotton fiber will be processed, the president said.
Uzbekistan annually produces about 3,5 million tons of raw cotton and 1-1,2 million tons of cotton fiber. About 40 percent of the cotton fiber is exported.
According to official statistics, in 2017 Uzbekistan's cotton fiber exports decreased by 25.2 percent to 477,000 tons. At the same time, its share in the exports fell to 3.4 percent and the production also fell to 951,900 tons.
