Turkmenistan, Iran discuss joint projects in fishing industry

A meeting with the delegation of the Iranian Fisheries Corporation was held in Ashgabat, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET) said in a statement.

At the UIET, the parties discussed possibility of establishing a partnership. The sides exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation in the issues of aquaculture technologies, the creation of joint ventures for the production and processing of fish.

The parties stated that the expansion of contacts between Turkmen and Iranian fishermen is required for the favorable formation of business ties, the message says.

The delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran intends to visit the complex for breeding sturgeon, production of fish, caviar and fish products on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian sea and other fisheries of the country.

It was reported in March that in Turkmenistan, the enterprises of the State Committee for Fisheries caught 555 tons of fish since the beginning of the year, which exceeded the volume of last year's catch for the same period.

In addition, information about the announcement of an international tender for the construction of a complex for artificial sturgeon breeding and production of fish products in the Guvlymayak village of the Balkan region of Turkmenistan, as well as a fish canning shop at the "Balkanbalyk" state enterprise at the expense of foreign investors was disclosed.

Turkmenistan - its Western region, along with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Iran is washed by the Caspian sea, rich in biological resources. "Balkanbalyk" is a leading enterprise in the country, which produces fish in the Caspian sea and is engaged in the processing of fishery products.

Turkmenistan has adopted a program for the development of fisheries until 2030.
