The "Yandex.Taxi" company plans to expand its activities to other cities of Uzbekistan, Podrobno.uz reported referring to the Director for Work with State Bodies of "Yandex.Taxi" company Anton Petrakov.

"We are ready to launch in a short time the “Yandex.Taxi" service in other cities of Uzbekistan, for example, in Samarkand, Bukhara, Urgench and Andijan, but for this purpose we need very accurate and latest online maps of these cities. This takes time. For example, it took us about a year to create a map of Tashkent," Petrakov said.

He noted that currently the company is working independently on preparation of maps of major cities of the country. At the same time, Petrakov added that "Yandex" will be extremely grateful to the state bodies of Uzbekistan for assistance in this direction – for example, it would be very useful for the company to have digital registers of objects in these cities.

"We have already appealed to the Uzbekistan’s State Committee for Land Resources, Geodesy, Cartography and State Cadastre for a possible data exchange. It is too early to talk about the results, but we have agreed to meet and discuss this issue. We hope for fruitful cooperation, which will benefit all parties – the state, business, and residents of cities. It's not just about being able to run "Yandex.Taxi" in a few more cities, although many people are waiting for us there. Open data is always for the benefit of society", Petrakov said.

"There are many studies on how online services have changed the infrastructure of cities around the world for the better, and we believe that our technologies will help Uzbekistan's cities become more comfortable for both locals and tourists," Anton Petrakov concluded.
