The Russian government is working to simplify trade procedures with Azerbaijan in order to minimize the number and complexity of administrative procedures for transshipment of goods across the border, Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for the North Caucasus Olga Rukhullayeva told Trend.

"In the North Caucasus region, by the end of 2019, work related to the reconstruction of the Yarag-Kazmalar checkpoint, including the organization of a pedestrian crossing over the Samur River will be completed."

The checkpoint will be included in the list of checkpoints for transshipment of alcohol products, Rukhullayeva said.

"One of the most important areas of the current Russia-Azerbaijan cooperation is the launch of the movement along the international North-South transport corridor, particularly, along its western branch [via Azerbaijan], which is the shortest route. There is an increased interest of Russian and international companies in cargo transportation via North-South on the Russia-Iran-India route and in the opposite direction. Therefore, Azerbaijani partners are invited to consider the possibility of introducing Russian Platon and GLONASS systems in Azerbaijan, which will create a safe and transparent environment for the internal and transit transport of passengers and cargoes," the deputy minister said.

Rukhullayeva noted that Russia is working on the reduction of barriers in trade with Azerbaijan and creating "green corridors."

"This was announced by the Russian Minister of Economy Maxim Oreshkin at the Russia-Azerbaijan forum in Baku. There were also negotiations about the need to expand the trade and economic potential between our countries, working on joint projects, mutually investing in the long-term bilateral partnership between Azerbaijan and Russia," Rukhullayeva added.
