The chairman of Export Promotion Committee at IEIS (Iran Electricity Industry Syndicate) said Tehran is in talks with Moscow to join Russia’s electricity network.
“Russia is among the countries that has a stable and powerful power network,” Payam Baqeri told ILNA news agency on October 4.
Therefore, joining Russia’s national electricity grid could have positive outcomes for Iran, he added.
“Currently, Iran’s current installed capacity in electricity is 80,000 megawatts. This capacity in Russia is three or four times larger,” the official said.
“Iran could connect to Russia’s power network either through Armenia, Georgia and Russia or Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Russia,” Baqeri said.
We are in talks with Russians and studying options, he noted.
