Iranian Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati said Tehran and Moscow have agreed to remove the US dollar from their mutual transactions as part of efforts to expand their trade relations.

One of the main topics we discussed during the meeting included conducting financial transactions by the countries’ national currencies instead of the US dollar and strengthening of bilateral economic relations, Hemmati said late on Thursday after meeting his Russian counterpart Elvira Nabiullina in Moscow, IRNA reported.

The two sides also agreed to increase the volume of their trades and enhance their banking ties, he added.

“I had a good and constructive meeting with the governor of the Russian central bank. We developed a roadmap to enhanced ties,” Hemmati said.

Hemmati has traveled to the Russian capital at the head of a high-ranking delegation.

Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei was also present in the Thursday meeting.

Increasing the level of brokerage relationships, financing civil projects, and boosting trade ties were also explored at the meeting.
