Kazakhs spend more on car purchase

Despite the depreciation of the national currency of Kazakhstan against the U.S. dollar this year, the Kazakhs did not stop spending money buying cars.

On the contrary, the demand for cars in the country has increased.

Kazakhstan Association of Automotive Industry KazAvtoProm has recently stated that for January-August 2018, the population spent 304.6 billion tenge buying new cars, which is 41.1 percent higher than in 2017.

"Since the purchase of a car is a rather serious purchase, there is some caution on the part of buyers due to the instability of the exchange rate," Astana Motors company said. “However, despite the fluctuations in the tenge rate, we do not see a decline in interest in cars. On the contrary, we can note the growth of interest among customers."

The company added that its sales for 8 months accounted for 8,563 cars – this is an increase of about 74 percent compared to the same period last year.

The results of car sales throughout Kazakhstan are very optimistic. According to the Association of Kazakhstan Automobile Business, the total sales of new cars in Kazakhstan amounted to 37,922 units from January to August 2018 – this is an increase of 30 percent compared to the same period in 2017.

Since the beginning of 2018, as many as 970,977 vehicles have been registered in Kazakhstan, according to KazAvtoProm.

As many as 911,316 of them accounted for secondary registration vehicles, which is 13.4 percent higher than a year ago. The number of initially registered vehicles was 59,661 – 24.2 percent more than in 2017.

The official exchange rate on October 8 is 373.71 USD/KZT.
