Iran’s North Drilling Company (NDC) and Oman’s Oil Ministry have agreed to boost their cooperation in the sectors of upstream and drilling, the Head of NDC, a subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company, said.

We will boost our drilling-related cooperation and services to prepare the ground for more investment, upstream oil and gas projects, Hamidreza Golpayegani said after meeting Ali Abdullah Al-Riyami, the director general of Oil and Gas Marketing in the Omani Ministry of Oil and Gas, in Muscat, Mehr news agency reported on October 9.

“We are ready to provide technical support and consultation, and share our offshore and onshore drilling experiences with international players active in the oil and gas sector,” he said.

After over a decade of discussion, the Iran-Oman gas pipeline was greenlit last year, and a joint committee was formed in July to finalize the deal. The massive energy and engineering project will cost an estimated $1.2 billion and will funnel 28 million cubic meters per day of Iranian natural gas from the southern port of Kuhmobarak to the port of Sohar in Oman, according to the National Iranian Gas Company.

Kuhmobarak’s location near the Strait of Hormuz on the Sea of Oman makes it an ideal launch point. 30 percent of global seaborne oil and gas pass through the Strait of Hormuz each day.
