Passenger traffic through Marmaray tunnel in Turkey’s Istanbul disclosed

In January-August 2018, 1,618,517 passengers were transported via the Marmaray tunnel in Turkey’s Istanbul city, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend on Oct. 9.

In January, 181,332 passengers were transported through the Marmaray tunnel, 187,231 passengers in February, 198,385 passengers in March, 197,250 passengers in April, 186,938 passengers in May, 170,595 passengers in June, 165,155 passengers in July and 144,246 passengers in August.

In 2014-2017, 230,288,109 passengers were transported through the Marmaray tunnel.

"At the end of 2014, 43,651,135 passengers were transported through the Marmaray tunnel, in 2015 - 60,958,142 passengers, in 2016 - 62,615,490 passengers and in 2017 - 63,063,342 passengers," the ministry said.

The Marmaray railway tunnel, which connects the eastern and European parts of Turkey, was commissioned in autumn 2013.
