Kazakhstan intends to resume grain exports to Egypt, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Egypt Arman Issagaliyev said at a briefing at the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, according to Kazinform.

"Kazakhstan’s Food Contract Corporation has expressed its intention to participate in tenders held in Egypt. In addition, we have hope for private business – contracts for the supply of oilseeds and other crops worth $10 million have already been signed," he said.

Issagaliyev added that Egypt is interested in creating a base of Kazakh grain on its territory for its further distribution in the region.

Kazakhstan annually supplied about 1 million tons of grain to Egypt in 2008, 2009 and 2010. However, the supply of Kazakh grain was later stopped as a result of unstable political situation in Egypt.

The trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $62.4 million in 2017, as much as $50.7 million of which accounted for Kazakhstan’s imports from Egypt, and $11.7 – for exports. The trade turnover between the countries in the first half of this year reached $60.6 million.
