In the first half of the current year (beginning from March 21, 2018), Iran’s trade balance has been positive amounting to $940 million, and Iraq has become Iran’s second largest trade partner, the Head of Iran Export Confederation Mohammad Lahouti said at the event dedicated to Iran’s National Export Day, the Mehr news agency reported.

He noted that Iran's export volumes to European countries have decreased.

"Of course, this is caused mainly by the influence of the embargoes to be applied," he said.

“Iran’s Central Bank will announce the titles of the official currency exchange offices in Iraq and Afghanistan markets in order to ensure close cooperation between exporters and government for the purpose of return of the currency gained from export to Iraq and Afghanistan. The Afghanistan market does not have an active bank system cooperating with Iran. Among other reasons, due to being under the US control, Iraq’s bank system also does not have strong banking relations with Iran,” he said.

Lahouti noted that Iraq and Afghanistan are important trade partners of Iran and the value of exports to these two countries exceeds $10 billion.
