The State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan is working on the development of master plans for small and medium-sized cities of the country, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee Dovlatkhan Dovlatkhanov told Trend.

According to him, the general plans of small and medium-sized cities, which were developed during the Soviet era, have been 90 percent renewed and the process will end in 2019.

"So far, we have concluded contracts with local Azerbaijani organizations that have joined the development of documents for six small towns of the country: Saatli, Sabirabad, Kurdamir, Dashkasan, Shabran, Tartar," Dovlatkhanov said.

In the current socio-economic conditions, the state partially funds the construction of facilities in large and small cities of the country, he added.

"The state invests in the construction of medical, educational, cultural and sports facilities. The private sector invests in the construction of housing and other facilities. Thus, the state creates the conditions for the expansion of the private sector, at the same time contributing to the creation of a comfortable living environment for its citizens," Dovlatkhanov said.

He added that the dynamic development of small and medium-sized cities is a priority for the state’s economic policy, like the development of Baku and other large cities of Azerbaijan.
