In the first seven months of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), Iran imported bananas worth $237.524 million, according to the foreign trade statistics of Iran's Customs Administration, Mizan News Agency reported.

Bananas accounted for 0.9 percent of Iran’s all imports during this period.

Despite that bananas are produced in Iran’s Hormozgan, Sistan and Baluchestan provinces, bananas are sold at higher prices in the country, because they are imported for foreign currency.

The Iranian government has banned imports of products in 1,400 names in order to prevent foreign currency outflow. However, some products, which aren’t considered essential, are still imported.
