Tehran, Iran, Nov.12

Trend:

Iran's foreign minister criticized the current negative mood against the approval of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) bills and called it publicity created by some groups who profits from money laundering.

“I believe many of these concerns are honest; but I think some of these concerns are due to economic interests," said Mohammad Javad Zarif on November 12.

"Money laundering is a fact in our country and many benefit from money laundering," the Iranian foreign minister said.

Pointing to the confidential facts in this case, he says, "Even if I have any proof of it, I will not be able to make it public, but there are many codes that show the volume of money laundering in the country."

"I don't want to point the finger at someone, but there are some places where thousands of billions of rials is laundered there. They obviously are financially capable of spending hundreds of billions of rials for propaganda [against the bills],” he said.

“I do not accuse any organization. I think of individuals who benefit from this negative atmosphere," he noted.
