Counting of bees was carried out in Iran’s beekeeping facilities to ensure accurate research and production control, Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture Jihad said in a message quoting Hadi Barazandeh, adviser to deputy minister for livestock production affairs.
The counting of bees was carried out by 7,700 experts and the information collected will gradually be downloaded to a database, he said.
“The counting process included beehives, number of bees, beekeepers’ activity, honey production, as well as the production of wax, propolis and royal jelly,” he said.
Death of honey bees as a result of climate change or illness was also investigated in the counting process, he noted.
According to recent estimates, there are 800,000 beekeepers and more than 7.5 million beehives in Iran, and, according to this statistics, 88,000 tons of honey should be produced, he added.
