An average of 5.5 million tons of agricultural products will be produced on 550,000 hectares of land in Iran's southern provinces, Iranian Deputy Agriculture Minister for Soil and Water Affairs Ali Murad Akbari said, ISNA reported.
Murad Akbari noted that the project for rehabilitation of 550,000 hectares of soil for agriculture is mainly carried out in Iran's border provinces, such as Khuzestan and Ilam.
Taking into account the steps taken to implement this project, work has been completed on 295,000 hectares of land, he said.
"The main goals in this project are to properly utilize large investments, to properly use water, increase public and economic security and to boost agricultural production," Murad Akbari said.
Some 26 consultants, 27 contractors and 8,000 specialists have been involved in the project, according to Murad Akbari.
