In the first seven months the current Iranian year (started March 21) Iran's East Azerbaijan province exported 153,000 tons of steel products worth $65.5 million, Chairman of Iran's Industry, Mine and Trade Organization in East Azerbaijan Huseyn Nejati said in an interview with IRNA.
Nejati noted that most of the investments in steel and car production are made by private sector.
South Azerbaijan province is Iran's steel production center with over 1.5 million tons of steel ingots (15 percent of Iran's all steel ingots) and 5.5 million steel construction materials (24 percent of Iran's all steel construction materials production).
"In 2017, Iran's steel making plants produced 950,000 tons of crude steel and 3.5 million tons of final products. In the first seven months of the current year, the production volume amounted to 610,000 tons of crude steel and 2.144 million tons of final products," Nejati said.
He predicts that the province's steel industry will produce 1.05 million tons of crude steel and 3.68 million tons of finished products by the end of the current year.
