Cargo transportation up in Azerbaijan

Some 188.9 million tons of cargo were transported in Azerbaijan in January-October 2018, which is 1.5 percent more than in the same period of 2017, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a statement.

Of the total volume of goods transported in January-October, 64.7 percent of goods were transported by vehicles, 25.5 percent - by pipelines, 6.1 percent - by railway, 3.6 percent - by ships and 0.1 percent - by planes.

Some 1.63 billion people were carried by passenger transport in January-October 2018, which is 1.3 percent more than in the same period of 2017. The majority (88.1 percent) of the passengers were transported by vehicles, 11.6 percent - by metro, and the remainder - by other types of transport.

Some 11.5 million tons of cargo were carried by railway in January-October 2018, which is 2.8 percent less than in January-October 2017.

On average, the number of loaded railcars amounted to 339, unloaded - 413 per day. The average daily load of railcars in the northern direction of the railway amounted to 12,600 tons, in the western direction – 5,400 tons, in the southern direction – 800 tons.

Some 6.83 million tons of cargo were transported by ships during the reporting period, which is 2.1 percent more than in January-October 2017. Some 54.9 percent of the transported cargo fell on oil cargo. The volume of cargo handled in the ports of Azerbaijan in January-October amounted to 8.2 million tons.

Some 122.3 million tons of cargo were transported by vehicles during the reporting period, which exceeds the same figure in 2017 by 2.9 percent.

The volume of passenger transportation by vehicles for the reporting period amounted to 1.44 billion people (an increase of 1.3 percent compared to January-October 2017). Some 96 percent of the passengers were transported by buses, 4 percent - by motor vehicles.

The volume of passenger traffic by metro amounted to 189.4 million people, an increase of 1.1 percent compared to the same period in 2017.

Some 2.07 million passengers were transported by planes in the first ten months of 2018, which is 2.5 percent more than in January-October 2017. Thus, 0.1 percent of transportation by this mode of transport fell on the private sector. Cargo transportation by planes increased by 21.6 percent and amounted to 166,400 tons for the year.
