Clothing production down in Kazakhstan, prices increase

Clothing production in Kazakhstan for the first 10 months of 2018 has decreased by 8.6 percent in value terms and made up 28.9 billion tenge.

The main producers are Almaty region (17.9 percent), Almaty city (15.5 percent) and Karaganda region (10.8 percent). Their main outerwear production enterprises are Glasman, KazLegProm and Temirtau Associates and Ancillaries.

İn the first 10 months of 2018, production of hats (46.8 percent year-on-year), women's outerwear (26.9 percent) and men's outerwear (24.3 percent) decreased significantly.

Meanwhile, production of knitted clothing in volume terms increased by 2.6 times year-on-year, and production of accessories and fur products rose by 64.7 percent.

In the first 9 months of 2018, the share of Kazakhstan's own production in the clothing segment was somewhat noticeable only in the production of tracksuits, swimwear and hosiery. The country imports most of the clothes.

In general, prices for various types of clothing in October rose from 5.2 to 9.3 percent year-on-year.
