Over 500 tons of bony fish caught in Iran's Gilan, in less than 2 months

From early October to November 21, some 579 tons of bony fish were caught from the Caspian sea in Iran's Gilan province, an official at Gilan Fishery Organization, Akbar Ildirim said, IRNA reported.

He noted that compared to last year, this year fishing started five days earlier, on October 7 and by November 21, 579 tons of bony fish were already caught, which shows 73 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year.

Ildirim added that Caspian kutum accounted for 30 percent of the caught fish , mugil made 68 percent, while the rest 2 percent accounted for other fish.

There are 48 fish industry cooperatives in the province, Ildirim said, adding that 3,700 fishermen has participated in fishing in the reported period.

Market value of the caught fish is 220 billion Iranian rials (roughly $5.23 million), he added.

Ildirim also noted that during the period between March 21 and November 21, 4,858 tons of brislings were caught, which in turn, shows 5 percent decrease compared to the same period of the previous year. Thirty fishing vessels and 270 fishermen were engaged in brisling fishing.
