Tehran, Iran, Dec.4
Trend:
A manager of a fish farming company in Iran said that the Trout fishes are not currently being exported abroad, while Iran is actually the biggest trout producer in the world.
"The US sanctions have slowed down the quality of the fish food, and, on the other hand, the price has tripled and we are not successful in production," the manager of Kashpel fish farming company in Mazandaran province Jafar Tavassoli told Trend.
He went on to say that the larval fishes which were imported from France and Spain are no longer being imported due to sanctions, which is why Iran has another problem.
“Due to the decline in the quality of fish food, a large number of larval fishes are ill and the remaining number is raised with difficulties,” he said.
"The quality of the fish is not low, but the quality of fish food has been reduced because the powder of fish is expensive,” he explained.
Tavassoli went on to say that the cost of maintaining fish farms has risen.
"The loans that government was given to us have been reduced,” he says.
He went on to say that the rate of interest for loans were up to 14 percent before the sanctions but the interest rate has now risen to 28 percent.
Tavassoli said that in such situation, the producers are bankrupt.
Referring to the export of fish products he said that Trout fish is not currently exported.
"We have applicants for other types of fish, but there is not enough production in the market to export. We cannot answer the internal needs," he said.
