Azerbaijani tourists down money spending abroad

In January-September 2018, Azerbaijani residents were provided with tourist services in foreign countries in the amount of $1.3 billion, Trend reports referring to the balance of payments of the Central Bank (CBA).

Most of this amount (79 percent) was spent by Azerbaijani citizens in foreign countries on personal trips. In January-September 2017, these figures were $2 billion and 72.5 percent respectively.

According to the balance of payments, the mutual turnover of tourism services amounted to $4.6 billion (an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the same period last year). The surplus in tourism services rose by 11.8 percent to $370.3 million over the same period.

In general, the non-resident has rendered to Azerbaijani residents services in the amount of $5.3 billion ($6.1 billion in the same period of the previous year), as follows from the balance of payments of the Central Bank.

As noted, in turn, residents of Azerbaijan provided services to non-residents in the amount of $4 billion. In 2017, this figure was $3.5 billion.

As a result, during the reported period, a deficit of $1.3 billion formed in the balance of services ($2.6 billion in 2017). Most of the deficit - $1.2 billion is associated with the oil and gas sector. It is noteworthy that about $1 billion from this amount fall on the services provided to the residents of Azerbaijan in the oil and gas construction sector.

According to the balance of payments, also $2 billion fell on mutual transport services, of which $888.7 million are transportation services of residents of Azerbaijan to non-residents. In general, Azerbaijan's export of transport services, rendered in the non-oil sector, increased by 1.5 times compared to the same period of the previous year.
