Ashgabat hosted a meeting of a working group on development of interagency cooperation in the context of water, energy and food security in Turkmenistan, Trend reports referring to the "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper.
The event was organized within the "Central Asia Nexus Dialogue Project: Fostering Water, Energy and Food Security Nexus Dialogue and Multi-Sector Investment".
The project is funded by the EU and implemented by the Regional Environmental Center of Central Asia in partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature and with the support of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).
Established in the 1990s by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, IFAS aims to finance joint projects and programs to save the Aral Sea and improve the environmental situation in the Aral region.
IFAS was granted an observer status in the UN General Assembly in December 2008. Ashgabat put forward earlier an initiative to develop a special UN program for the Aral Sea.
