The launch of hydrogen purification unit at Bandar Abbas Oil Refinery will contribute to production capacity and quality, head of the refinery Hashem Namvar said, Trend reports via Iranian media.

The launch of the new unit has considerably decreased the amount of sulfur produced in the refinery, deeming it a substantial progress and a giant leap in the production of high quality diesel fuel.

The new unit is capable of recycling 35,000 tons of solid sulfur per annum, the head of the refinery said.

Namvar noted that one of the main objectives of the new project is protecting the environment. The commissioning of the new unit will prevent the emission of seven million tons of sulfur oxide to the environment.

One of the main indicators while assessing fuels like diesel is the amount of sulfur they contain, he said, adding that amount of sulfur has been decreased from 10,000 mg to 50 mg at the new hydrogen purification unit.

Thanks to the latest technologies used at the unit, emission of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide has decreased by 11,100 tons, Namvar added.

The hydrogen purification unit was commissioned in the eighth month of the current Iranian year (started March 21) and produces 15 million liters of diesel per day.
