Construction activity is one of the most significant areas of Uzbekistan’s economy and an attractive investment area.
The volume of construction work for 2018 amounted to 47.26 trillion Uzbekistani soums, Trend reports with reference to the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics.
Growth rates over the corresponding period of 2017, reached 9.9 percent.
The volume of construction work performed by large construction contractors amounted to 15.8 trillion soums, or 5.5 percent over the corresponding period in 2017, with the share in the total volume of construction work reaching 33.4 percent. The share of small enterprises and microfirms makes up 39.2 percent, the share of the informal sector - 27.4 percent.
The volume of construction work performed by small enterprises and microfirms amounted to 18.54 trillion UZS, or 39.2 percent of the total construction work, with the growth rate reaching 17.2 percent. The share of the informal sector is 27.4 percent, or 12.92 trillion UZS, with a 5.5 percent growth rate.
The main part of the construction work on the types of economic activity was carried out by the construction of design work, residential buildings and non-residential premises. Their share in the total volume of construction work amounted to 78.2 percent and, increased by 1.1 percent, in comparison to the same period of 2017.
The share in the volume of construction work in the field of civil engineering amounted to 11.1 percent and, in comparison to the same period of 2017, decreased by 0.8 percent.
The share of specialized construction work made up 10.7 percent and, compared to the same period in 2017, decreased by 0.3 percent.
The share of the informal sector in the total volume of construction work amounted to 27.4 percent, or 12.92 trillion soums and, in comparison with the corresponding period in 2017, reached 5.5 percent.
Leading in the regional structure of construction work carried out by large contracting organizations are the Navoy Region (29.3 percent of construction work was carried out by large organizations in this region and, compared to the corresponding period of 2017, amounted to an almost doubled growth), Tashkent city (28.0 percent and 104.7 percent respectively, over the same period in 2017) and Tashkent Region (25.6 percent and 131.9 percent respectively, over the same period in 2017).
The lowest shares in the volume of construction work performed by large contracting organizations were recorded in the Samarkand region (1.7 percent of the construction work was done by large contracting organizations in this region, and amounted to 34.7 percent, compared to the corresponding period last year), in Andijon Region (3.6 percent and 84.0 percent respectively, over the same period last year) and Sirdaryo Region (4.8 percent and 76.4 percent respectively, over the same period in 2017).
