Mining of aluminum ores in Kazakhstan in 2018 increased by 26 percent to 6.1 million tons, Trend reports via Energyprom.kz.

The largest enterprise of the industry, which is engaged in the extraction and enrichment of bauxite in the Kostanay region, is Aluminium of Kazakhstan JSC. It is the only company in Kazakhstan producing raw materials for the production of aluminum — alumina.

According to the company, in 2018, the volume of bauxite production amounted to 5.7 million tons, which is 14 percent more than a year earlier.

Despite this growth, the production of untreated aluminum declined slightly – 0.9 percent down to 1.8 million tons.

Exports of alumina for January-November 2018 decreased in real terms by 2.7 percent to 897,300 tons, but increased in money by 5.2 percent to $314.7 million. The key importer is Russia, where almost all the supplies go.
