The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and Hevel Kazakhstan LLP have signed a loan agreement for opening a long-term multicurrency credit line in the amount of 56.2 million euros to finance the construction of solar power plants in Kazakhstan, Trend reports via the Bank's press service.

The agreement was signed on February 14 on the sidelines of the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi. The contract involves the construction of solar power plants with a capacity of up to 90 MW.

"The estimated production of solar power plants, which is more than 160 million kWh per year, will reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by 85,000 tons annually. The generated electricity will be supplied to the power system of Kazakhstan. Commissioning of solar power plants is scheduled for 2020," the EDB said.

Along with other equipment, within the project it is planned to use heterostructure photovoltaic modules produced by Hevel. This will stimulate the development of high-tech production for renewable energy. The project contributes to the strengthening of economic ties between Russia and Kazakhstan.
