Azerbaijan sees rise in agricultural products output

The agricultural output value stood at 313.1 million manats in Azerbaijan in January 2019, which is by 2.4 percent more than in the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

In the reported period, plant growing increased by 43.6 percent (to 11.5 million manats), while livestock production rose by 1.2 percent (to 301.6 million manats).

Besides, 40,700 tons of meat, 152,500 tons of milk, 144,200 eggs and 15,600 tons of vegetables were produced in Azerbaijan in January 2019. Compared to January 2018, meat production decreased by 3.4 percent, milk production by 0.9 percent, eggs by 14.5 percent and vegetables by 1.7 times.

Cultivation is carried out in the fields, orchards and vineyards, as well as preparatory activities are carried out regarding the planting of summer crops.

In accordance with preliminary information, as of 2019, grain crops were sown at an area of 999,900 hectares, 668,500 hectares (66.9 percent) of which account for wheat, 331,200 hectares (33.1 percent) for barley and 0,200 hectares (0.02 percent) for rye.

As of 2018, Azerbaijan had 2,910 greenhouses with a total area of ​​1,300 hectares, where 205,900 tons of tomatoes, 14,200 tons of cucumbers, 761.3 tons of mushrooms, 425.6 tons of potatoes, 237.3 tons of pepper, 170 tons of eggplants, 36.6 tons of onions, 2.5 tons of beans, 2.5 tons of garlic, 40.9 tons of strawberries and other products were manufactured.

The agriculture products were grown mainly in greenhouse farms in Absheron, Shamkir, Khazar, Salyan, Samukh, Sabunchu, Tovuz, Sabirabad and Masalli districts of Azerbaijan.

In January 2019, 15,600 tons of vegetables were harvested in greenhouses in Azerbaijan.
