Uzbekistan topped the list of the largest suppliers of clothing to Kazakhstan in 2018, sending 10,100 tons worth $18.4 million to the neighboring country, Trend reports via the Uzbek media.

The leader of the previous year, China, which supplied 8,500 tons of clothing worth $83.5 million, was on the second place.

Judging by the figures, the Uzbek-made clothing turned out to be cheaper than the Chinese ones, not to mention the products of other countries. For example, 6,200 tons of clothing from Russia cost the Kazakhs $158.2 million, 4,600 tons from Turkey - $98.5 million, and 1,900 tons from Bangladesh - $42.9 million.

Overall, Kazakhstan imported a total of 34,500 tons of clothing in 2018, while in real terms, imports decreased by 4.9 percent and increased by 5.5 percent in monetary terms.

In recent years, Uzbekistan exports textile products and has reduced supply of cotton and cotton yarn abroad. In 2018, the country sent textiles worth $1.6 billion to foreign markets. The main buyers were Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. In the next six years, Uzbekistan intends to increase the exports of finished textile, garments and knitwear products to $7 billion.
