Baku, Azerbaijan, March 6

The World Bank (WB) is proud of Azerbaijan’s success, Mercy Tembon, WB Regional Director for the South Caucasus, said.
Tembon made the remarks at the high-level forum titled "Diversification of economy - role of private sector" in Baku, Trend reports on March 6.
Azerbaijan has done a lot, implemented a number of important reforms to turn from a low-income country into an average-income country, she said.
It was a long and difficult path, Tembon said.
She stressed that diversification of economy, which will be discussed at this forum, is part of this path.
Tembon added that presently, it is necessary to work to preserve this success and further develop the economy, as well as reduce the level of poverty in the country.
Everybody knows that Azerbaijan’s economic development was mainly achieved through the oil sector, she said.
The private sector plays a very important role in that direction as it is the main source for creating jobs, she added.
Tembon said that she is very glad that a meeting was held in Baku to discuss such an important issue as the private sector.
