By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

Production of light industry in Kazakhstan reached 6.4 billion tenge in January, which is an increase of 15.4 percent compared to the same period of last year, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

In particular, production of textiles in money amounted to 3.8 billion tenge, clothing – 2.1 billion tenge, leather and related products – 0.5 billion tenge.

Investments in fixed assets in the light industry in January amounted to 913.7 million tenge, which is almost 13 times more year-on-year. The growth was achieved by the inflow of investments in textiles production (from 7.5 million tenge in January last year to 902.9 million tenge this January).

It should be noted that last year Kazakhstan exported textile materials and products for $180.3 million, and cotton fiber for $78.7 million.

Almas Batanov, Chairman of the Industrial Development and Industrial Safety Committee of Kazakhstan’s Industry and Infrastructural Development Ministry, has earlier said that the country’s cotton is mainly supplied to foreign markets: only 15 percent of cotton fiber is processed in Kazakhstan, while 85 percent is exported.

To support this industry, roadmap projects for the development of the light, construction and furniture industries for 2019-2021 were approved. The implementation of the proposed measures will allow to increase the production of light and furniture industries and construction materials by 73 billion tenge annually.
