Over half of Kazakhs buy cars of local assembly

In the first two months of this year, 5,600 cars were produced in Kazakhstan, which is 34.6 percent more than a year earlier, Trend reports via Energyprom.kz.

The East Kazakhstan region accounted for 65.2 percent of the total output: 3,600 cars (32.6 percent up year-on-year). One of the two main automakers of the country – Azia Avto – works in the region.

The company, producing cars of such brands as LADA, SKODA, Chevrolet, KIA, plans to raise the production level to 30,000 cars by the end of the year.

Another 34.8 percent of passenger car production accounted for the Kostanay region, where SaryarkaAvtoProm operates: 1 900 cars, 38.6 percent up year-on-year. The company produces JAC, Peugeot, IVECO, ANKAI, Hyundai, Ravon, Chevrolet Niva.

In January, the share of local passenger car production increased from 50.6 to 61.2 percent.

Azia Avto leads in the number of sold cars: 3,063 in January-February 2019, or 62.5 percent of locally assembled cars sold. Meanwhile, SaryarkaAvtoProm sold 1,638 cars, or 33.4 percent of the cars sold.

They are followed by SemAZ (102 cars, 2.1 percent), KAMAZ-Engineering (55 cars, 1.1 percent), Hyundai Trans Auto (28 cars, 0.6 percent) and Daewoo Bus Kazakhstan (12 cars, 0.2 percent).
