The Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex (AMMC) of Uzbekistan intends to increase copper production by 2.1 times by 2026, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the enterprise.

In August 2018, in accordance with a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, the AMMC’s state share was transferred to the SFI Management Group in trust.

Representative of the supervisory board of the SFI Management Group Kabul Shodiev said at a international scientific-practical conference Almalyk that leading foreign and national scientists and experts were attracted to increase the efficiency of the enterprise, and a program of modernization and reconstruction of the main structural divisions of AMMC plant until 2022 was developed.

"In order to ensure sustainable development of production capacities, expand the raw material base and introduce advanced technologies, the government of the country decided to commence the development of the Yoshlik 1 field, which was previously considered as a reserve," the Chairman of the Board of AMMC Abdulla Khursanov noted.

The Yoshlik 1 deposit is located on the northern slope of the Kuramin Range, one kilometer away from Almalyk, and in close proximity to the Kalmakyr field. Estimated production capacity of ore of this field is up to 50 million tons per year. The preliminary cost of this investment project is more than $1.7 billion. Its development will allow increasing copper production by 2.1 times by 2026.

Khursanov stated that currently overburden mining works are underway including construction and assembly, in parallel with development of design and estimate documentation. The new project will create an additional 6000 new jobs.

In the medium term, the implementation of other projects aimed at expanding the resource base and modernizing production is also envisaged. The construction of underground mines "Samarchuk" and "Interfluve" on the basis of reserves of Angrensk ore field is one of them.

"The works on the program of reconstruction and stabilization of the main production facilities at the copper-smelting, zinc and the copper processing plants are also carried out at an accelerated pace. The timely implementation of investment projects will almost double the complex's production capacity and boost the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan,” Khursanov stressed.

Almalyk MMC is a unique mining complex and one of the largest enterprises specializing in mining and processing of rocks both in the country and across Central Asia.
