South Korean President Moon Jae-In met with President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev during his visit to a Central Asian country on Apr. 22, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

“Yesterday, at a meeting in a narrow circle, we discussed both the development of bilateral relations and the political situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Central Asia, I am quite satisfied with the results of the discussion,” Moon Jae-In said.

He noted that, Kazakhstan is among the countries of Central Asia which is developing at the fastest pace.

“To respond to the challenges of the era of the fourth industrial revolution, we evaluate the development of the state strategy of development “Kazakhstan-2050”. I think that Korea is the best partner for Kazakhstan in achieving such a vision of the future. Going beyond the current cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, it is necessary to promote cooperation to expand future growth engines, including IT, innovative industrial technologies, healthcare, medicine and space,” Moon Jae-In said.

He also thanked Kazakhstan for its peace policy and support for the stable situation on the Korean Peninsula.

“From this point of view, to create plans for cooperation in the fields of industry, we came to an agreement on the Fresh Wind program, and I am very pleased. This program will give new energy to bilateral economic cooperation and I hope for close cooperation for rapid progress. Kazakhstan supports the peace process on the Korean Peninsula, I would like to take this opportunity to express special thanks to you for your support,” he said.

In turn, Tokayev said that since Kazakhstan had gained its independence, the relations between Kazakhstan and South Korea have embarked on a brand new level of cooperation practically in all directions of cooperation.

"The intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation, the Business Council were established. The countries enjoy regular air service. Following the results of 2018 the bilateral turnover reached record of $4 billion," Tokayev said.

Tokayev also stressed that the Korea is one of the top 10 priority countries for Kazakhstan in the context of development of trade and investment and technological cooperation.

"We are interested in further deepening of cooperation and seeking for new opportunities this direction. The inflow of direct investments into Kazakhstan made $7 billion. South Korean business companies are working in food, mining, highway and other industries of Kazakhstan," President Tokayev noted.

In conclusion, the President of Korea said that Kazakhstan is a country that has achieved economic development after voluntarily renouncing nuclear weapons, which is a very important example for the Korean Peninsula and Korea hopes that the Central Asian country will share the experience in this matter with them.
