Repair and installation works on the runway began at the airport in the Turkey’s eastern Erzurum Province, a representative of the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.
As reported, the airport will be receiving only a limited number of passenger aircraft until work on the runway is completed.
According to the Ministry, repair and installation works on the runway will be completed in February 2020. "The total cost of the project is 24.7 million liras," the Ministry representative said.
The first airport in Turkey was built in 1912 and it was used for military purposes. In 1953, Istanbul airport was opened for the first time for international flights. In 1985, it was renamed in honor of the founder of the Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
