By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

According to the Ministry of Textile Industry of Turkmenistan, the growth rate for textile output in January-April 2019 reached 141.7 percent, Trend reports referring to the ministry.

The identical figures for cotton yarn and fabrics are 101.3 and 102.1 percent, respectively.

The growth rate of silk fiber production is 109.2 percent, and that of garment and knitwear is 138.4 percent, according to the ministry.

Turkmenistan grows more than 1 million tons of cotton annually, which is a highly demanded raw material for the country’s rapidly developing textile industry. Until recently, up to 70 percent of the cultivated raw materials were processed domestically.

The Turkmen textile industry is represented by a wide range of exports - from cotton fiber and yarn to finished garments and knitwear, produced by the largest complexes in Central Asia which are located in the capital and in all regions of the country.

A significant part of the products exported from Turkmenistan consist of home textiles, sportswear and jeans, released under world famous brands such as IKEA, Puma, Wal-Mart, Lidl, Bershka, Pull&Bear, River Island, and Costco.
