Kazakhstan to export nuclear fuel to China

Kazakhstan is to export nuclear fuel to Chinese nuclear power plants following the construction of the fuel assemblies plant, Trend reports via LS news agency.

The construction of the plant is estimated to cost no more than 49 billion tenge and is to take place in East Kazakhstan region.

“The output volume of the plant is to be 200 tons of nuclear fuel a year. The plant is estimated to reach the designed capacity by 2023. Some 129 work places are to be created within the framework of the project,” the statement said.

Furthermore, the fuel assemblies are to be exported to Chinese nuclear power plants. The first trial export is expected in 2021. The volume of the trial export is to be 50 tons of nuclear fuel.
