Some 51 types of minerals have been discovered and are being extracted in West Azerbaijan Province of Iran, Parisa Abedpour, member of the Industries, Mine and Trade Organization of West Azerbaijan Province, told reporters, Trend reports referring to IRNA.
According to Abedpour, there are 468 mines operating in West Azerbaijan Province.
She added that 16 million tons of minerals are being extracted from the mines of the province annually.
"Currently, the proven reserves of West Azerbaijan Province reach about 1.13 billion tons," she said.
Abedpour noted that 947,000 tons of raw gold are being extracted from 3 mines (along with 535,000 tons of gemstones extracted from 22 mines) annually.
She also said that 23,800 tons of mining materials worth $3.94 million were exported from West Azerbaijan Province last Iranian year (started March 21, 2018).
