Laying the first fiber optic cable trunk line in the region along the bottom of the Caspian Sea between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will be completed by the end of 2022, a source in Azerbaijan’s AzerTelecom told Trend.
The company said that the implementation of this project started after signing an agreement between AzerTelecom LLC from Azerbaijan and its Kazakh partners KazTransCom JSC and Transtelecom JSC, and the work on laying the fiber optic cable line will begin in the near future.
This project is a part of the Trans-Caspian trunk line project within the Azerbaijan Digital Hub program, which aims to transform Azerbaijan into the Regional Digital Center, according to the source.
For the purpose of building the Trans-Caspian trunk line, the total length of which will be 380-400 kilometers, the Azerbaijani and Kazakh project participants created a Consortium. In addition, a Joint Working Group was established, and a corresponding contract was signed to carry out the construction.
For the purpose of building the fiber optic trunk line, an intergovernmental agreement was signed between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. The agreement entitled “On organizing assistance in joint construction, ownership and organization of joint use of fiber optic communication lines along the bottom of the Caspian Sea via Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan route by the communication operators of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan” was approved by the Azerbaijani state.
