Kazakhstan, Japan discussing horse meat exports

Japan and Kazakhstan will consider the possibility of agreeing on veterinary certificates on horse meat export from Kazakhstan, Trend reports via the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.

During the General Assembly of International Episootic Bureau the delegation under the leadership of Gulmira Isaeva, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan held a meeting with the representatives of Japanese delegation.

The Japanese delegation was led by Norio Kumagai, Director-General, Food Safety and Consumer Affairs Bureau under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

“Previously, representative of Kazakh and Japanese business contacted the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan on the behalf of holding negotiations with Japan veterinary service on horse meat export to Japan. Kazakhstan veterinary service prepared the necessary documents and submitted them to Japanese colleagues,” the press office said.

In turn, Japanese party confirmed that they received surveys on assessment of standard effectiveness and the project of veterinary certificate on horse meat to export to Japan. The veterinary service also reported on the preliminary agreement on veterinary certificate project.

Furthermore, in accordance with Japanese law, the information from Kazakhstan is also being reviewed by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan.

Following the positive conclusion of this ministry the Japanese party is ready to agree on the veterinary certificates.
