Turkmenistan exporting iodine products to India

The Turkmen Khimiya Senagat company has commissioned an iodine production plant in the Bereket district of the Balkan region, Trend reports with reference to the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET).

This is the first experience of Turkmen entrepreneurs in the chemical industry. Three cargoes of products have already been sent to India, the report said.

The plant is equipped with innovative equipment that allows automating the entire complex process, ensuring the highest quality iodine.

The capacity of the equipment is designed for the annual manufacture of 150 tons of products.

At least 1,000 tons of iodine per year are planned to be extracted In Turkmenistan in the future.

The Balkanabat, Bereket and Khazar enterprises being a part of the Turkmenkhimiya State Concern ensure the main volume of iodine production.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of reserves of this mineral and fifth in terms of its production. But in the near future, the situation may change radically, Neytralni Turkmenistan newspaper wrote earlier.

In particular, the proposal of foreign companies to build high-tech production facility with a capacity of 300 tons of iodine per year at the location of "Khazar" plant is being considered.

In addition, specialists of Turkmenkhimiya State Corporation installed four pilot plants for the production of 90 tons of technical iodine per year on Chukurgui field of Balkan region. It is also planned to expand the production of the rare element at the Balkanabat enterprise.

The two enterprises engaged in extraction of iodine from salt solutions (natural waters and associated waters of oil and gas fields) are already being built by the local Khimiya Senagat company near the Okarem settlement, as well as near the Danatar settlement of the Balkan region of Turkmenistan.
