The EU launched a new Twinning project in Georgia to assist the country with strengthening its statistical system, Trend reports with reference to apsny.ge.

The project entitled “Strengthening the capacities of the Georgian statistical system” will be jointly implemented by Statistics Denmark and the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

According to Executive Director of Geostat Gogita Todradze, this new project aims to support the goals of the Association Agreement signed between Georgia and the EU. This Agreement, which entered into force in July 2016, is aimed at political association and economic integration between the EU and Georgia.

It will also assist Geostat to produce timely, reliable and internationally comparable data, and ensure its approximation to the European standards.

Twinning is a unique form of long-term cooperation between EU countries' public administrations and their counterparts in candidate and potential candidate countries for EU membership as well as in the EU's Neighborhood region.

For example, the Twinning project to strengthen e-government in Georgia, which was completed in 2018, led to the adoption of a new law on digital signatures and the adoption of a single European electronic identification system for electronic transactions, which is an important step for Georgia and its integration with Europe.
