The Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) held a final conference in support of a twinning project to improve the legal framework for electronic communications and strengthen the institutional base, Trend reports with reference to businesstime.ge.

The commission summarized results of 19-month work and outlined future prospects. The documents prepared within the framework of the project provide for a gradual convergence with EU directives and normative acts of Georgian legislation. The twinning project has contributed to Georgia’s adoption of a legislative framework in the field of telecommunications within the EU regulatory framework, which will provide a competitive environment for all market participants in the electronic communications sector of Georgia.

Within the project, the guidelines which provide practical legislative recommendations and introduction of best practices of the EU were developed.

A draft amendment to the regulatory rules on the protection of consumers' rights for international roaming was also prepared. The document touched upon the main conditions of service in international roaming, customer awareness, network management and alternative offers.

Twinning is a unique form of long-term cooperation between EU countries' public administrations and their counterparts in candidate and potential candidate countries for EU membership as well as in the EU's Neighborhood region.
