Iran imports 1.5-2 million tons of barley annually, said Director General of the Iranian Agriculture Ministry's Grains and Essential Goods Department Faramak Aziz Karimi, Trend reports with reference to IRNA.
In his words, Iran needs five million tons of barley annually. He added that nearly 500,000 tons of barley were imported to Iran during the three months (March 21 – June 21) of this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019).
“This year, barley production is expected to grow by 400,000 tons and harvesting 3.5 million tons of barley is forecast,” he said.
