The Railways of Islamic Republic of Iran (RAI) is to provide guarantees to companies that export rail equipment in order to support domestic production.

Head of RAI Saeed Rasouli discusses the issue and talks about recent conference of International Union of Railways (UIC) in an interview with Trend.

"The conference was held in Jordan, and Iran attended the event as the UIC member," he said. "The managing director of RAI was appointed as deputy head of the union. UIC holds meetings every six months, at which regional issues and future plans are discussed."

"I have suggested formation of Middle East transportation council, and the initiative was welcomed by the UIC members and the Union's Director General François Davenne," he added. "We believe that UIC can play a bigger role in facilitating transportation operations and railways relations in the region by establishing a transportation council. It can implement regulations and standards to improve the capacity of railways in the world."

"During the conference, I held bilateral meetings with my counterparts from Turkey, Jordan and Syria. I presented rail production capacities of Iranian companies and expressed our readiness to export engineering services," he said. "They expressed interest in the capacities of Iran's passenger and cargo transportation fleet and the country's experience in self-propelled wagon and railway renovation and construction as well as in the field of infrastructure and signal communications."

In his words, Iran is one of the eight countries in the world that has produced signal systems domestically. "RAI is ready to provide guarantee and support to domestic companies for renovation and reconstruction of railways in the following countries, and this suggestion was also welcomed," he added.

"As expected, our partners will submit their requirements, and Iran will increase the production of rail industry equipment and facilitate the exports to other countries," he noted.

Iranian Railways will be hosting the 7th edition of the UIC nextstation conference in Tehran from November 11-13, 2019.
