Total liabilities of Georgian banks increase

Total liabilities of Georgian banks increased by 9.5 percent - up to 37.84 billion lari in January-June of 2019, Trend reports with reference to the National Bank of Georgia.

The deposit base increased by 7 percent - up to 24.63 billion lari, including demand deposits amounted to 10.40 billion lari (increase by 7.6 percent), term deposits – 14.22 billion lari (an increase of 6.5 percent). The share of deposits in foreign currency is 65.5 percent (a decrease of 0.7 percentage points from the beginning of the year).

Equity of the banking sector of the country increased by 1.7 percent - to 5.22 billion lari. Profitability of assets (ROA) reached 2.1 percent, profitability of the capital (ROE) totaled 16.2 percent.

In January-June 2019, Georgian banks received a net profit of 360.8 million lari, which is 12.1 percent less compared to the same period last year.

As of July 1, 2019, 15 commercial banks operated in Georgia.
