The Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan conducts research work directly related to the exploration of an artificial island, Trend reports referring to Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

The issue is composition of the coastal water; variability of heavy metals onshore and offshore; chemical, mechanical and agrochemical indicators of soil.

The soil extracted while building an international sea port in Turkmenbashi city was used to create an artificial island.

According to the results of the inspections, ecological purity of the sea latitudes, within which the port facilities will be located, was approved.

An artificial island covering an area of 170 hectares, located at a distance of four kilometers from the port, is of great importance in terms of protecting the natural originality of the Caspian region.

This created the conditions for the conservation of the diversity of birds in the region. The island has become a place for nesting and wintering of flamingos, geese, ducks and other birds.

The island is planned to be used as an original facility of ecological tourism in the future.
