Rice production to increase in Iran

Rice production in Iran will increase and reach 2.5 million tons this Iranian year, Director General of the Grain and Main Products Department of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Faramak Azizkarimi told Trend.
He said that Iran needs three million tons of rice per year.
Azizkarimi added that according to the government's decision, rice may be cultivated only in Gilan and Mazandaran provinces. These two provinces should meet Iran's domestic needs.
The price of Iranian rice per 1 kg in Iran ranges between 190,000-230,000 rials ($4.5-5.4 according to the official exchange rate and $1.5-1.9 according to the exchange rate in the black market).
